Barcelona boss Hansi Flick admitted his team did not play well against Atletico in their Copa del Rey semi-final first leg but is baffled why Pau Cubarsi’s goal was disallowed.

The defender thought he had made it 4-1 in the second half but saw his effort chalked off after an eight-minute VAR check.

Flick spoke about the game and says he still does not know how the decision was made

“We haven’t played well. We have to go to the second game. It will be very difficult, but we’re going to fight for it,” he told reporters.

“We talked at halftime about the different situations and how we should do better. We didn’t see the team I want to see in the first half.

“It’s a mess. They have to wait seven minutes, oh come on.

“They find something in this seven minutes? OK. When I see this situation, it was clear no offside. Maybe they could see something different. Then tell us. It’s no communication. It’s so bad here.”

The German coach also showed how he felt the lines had been drawn to make the decision….

The Barcelona boss also said he was proud of his players despite their poor results.

“I’m proud of my team. Maybe not in the first half today, but yes for the season,” he added.

“We had a lot of injuries, we’ll come back and we have to accept this lesson. We have to start from the beginning, like the Atlético players have done. No excuses.”

The result means Barcelona have an absolute mountain to climb if they are to make it through to the final. The two teams meet again in the second leg at Camp Nou on March 3.
