Michael Strahan jokingly dismissed Myles Garrett breaking his sack record

Records are made to be broken, but that doesn't mean that Michael Strahan was necessarily happy to see his single-season sack record fall on Sunday.

In the final game of the season, Browns star Myles Garrett became the first NFL player to record 23 sacks in a season after bringing down Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter. Heading into that game, only Strahan and T.J. Watt had recorded more sacks at 22.5 apiece.

Strahan, of course, was asked for his thoughts on Garrett overtaking the record during Fox's postgame coverage. And Strahan — at least jokingly — wanted to set a distinction between the two records. Garrett set his mark in the final game of a 17-game season while Strahan's record came in a 16-game season.

Strahan did have plenty of praise for Garrett, and he even had to know that an expanded season was inevitably going to mean broken records. But if we're playing technicalities with games played, Watt only needed 15 games for his 22.5-sack season.

More games or not: It's Garrett's record now.
