Green Bay Packers rookie receiver Savion Williams has spent the better part of the last two weeks in a walking boot nursing a foot and ankle injury, but the third-round pick was able to battle through the injury and make a huge play for Matt LaFleur's team late in Sunday's 27-20 win over the New York Giants.
Williams, a third-round pick, has been questionable to play each of the last two weeks. LaFleur admitted he's been surprised that Williams could play through the issue. But on 3rd-and-10 with the Packers trailing by a point in the fourth quarter, Williams executed in an off-schedule situation with Jordan Love and made a huge play on a 33-yard contested catch -- setting up the go-ahead touchdown with just over four minutes left.
"What a play by Savion Williams," LaFleur said. "I love that Jordan bought time. Sometimes that's what it takes in this league. I can't say enough about Savion. He's been battling through. He's had an ankle (injury), he's been battling through. Quite honestly, when I watch him throughout the course of practice, I'm like, 'Are you sure this guy can play?" But this guy is as tough as they come."

Williams was in a walking boot during breakfast and getting off the bus at the stadium on Sunday morning. A few hours later, he made a game-changing play in the fourth quarter.
"He's been in (the walking boot) on a daily basis," LaFleur said. "Matter of fact, I woke up this morning and went down to breakfast and saw him in a walking boot, and I was like, "It's not every day you see your starting returner in a walking boot and expecting to go play in a game." Obviously, he's safe from a medical standpoint. It's just a pain tolerance issue. I would say he has a pretty high tolerance."
On the big play, Love got terrific perfection, bought time in the pocket and directed Williams deep. The rookie made the adjustment and then hauled in a contested catch in traffic in a crucial spot.
"Went off scramble drill, told him to go deep," Love said. "Threw him up a 50/50 ball. He went up and made a big-time catch for us. Just a really phenomenal play by him."
Three plays after Williams' catch, Love hit Christian Watson for a 17-yard score that put the Packers up 27-20.
It wouldn't have been possible without Williams' conversion.
"That was big time," Love said. "It gave everybody a lot of juice and energy to go finish the drive."
